Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat Pray Love inspired me in so many ways, so when I heard about Big Magic, I knew I had to read it. In Big Magic, Elizabeth talks about her life and how she managed to keep her creative magic, even when things weren’t always going so well.
When you love doing something it’s the best feeling in the world. Whether you are an artist, writer, photographer or dancer, when you do what you love, without any pressure or stress you feel only joy. However, when you turn that passion into your full time work and it becomes the thing that needs to make enough money to pay your bills, that joy can very quickly become a burden. Suddenly you are no longer doing what you love because you want to, you are doing it because you NEED to. In this situation it’s very easy to start hating that thing that you originally loved and when this happens your creativity will suffer.
Big Magic will help you to understand how to find the balance in your life that you need. It will allow you to explore your possibilities without feeling pressured and let your creative spirit continue to flourish. It’s beautifully written and a real pleasure to read.
